Construction Report

In accordance with our HOKIE goals that the construction team set from the project inception, encouraging health through safety and comfort are achieved through a welldeveloped site-specific safety plan and proper planning of activities and deliveries as to ensure that there is no threat of harm to any students, faculty, or visitors walking around the outside of the job site. Optimizing life cycle and project duration was achieved by finding solutions to minimize some cost relief to the university by implementing potential membership cost increases and working with the design options to analyze system costs, as well as integrating a 30-month construction schedule that incorporates the Virginia Tech school year in mind. Through Coalescence site utilization and scheduling strategies, the team eliminated waste from project setup and is now able to streamline the construction process. The quality control (QC) plan that was developed will detail proper trade handoffs and minimize rework and punch list items so at final completion, there are no remaining items. The team properly can achieve a kinetic design through functionality. By achieving innovation through adaptable design, the Coalescence construction team established a lean and highly integrated culture within the project team and trades during design and construction. The key focuses include utilizing cutting-edge technology, prevention through design strategies, and ensuring overall transparency and satisfaction. Finally, the construction team achieved maximum efficiency and sustainability by installing systems and maintenance areas in spaces that are very accessible and workable for the caretakers of the new War Memorial Hall, as well as assist the design team in achieving a LEED Gold Status for the building.
